Altenew Celebration: Stencil Techniques - Elegant Tulips

Hello!  Today I'm sharing a card I created for Altenew's AECP Project - Celebration: Stencil Techniques.

I used the following Altenew products to create this card:

  • Elegant Tulips Outline Stamp Set, Simple Coloring Stencil Set and the Die Set.
  • Fresh Dye Inks in Mauve, Pistachio, Mossy Meadow, Golden Honeycomb, Sand Dunes, Rocky Shore, and Mocha
  • Crisp Dye Inks in Sea Glass, Ocean Waves and Dusk
  • Brushed Silver Metallic Cardstock
  • Crystal Clear Enamel Dots

Other Products used:

  • Copic Markers: RV10, RV11, RV32, YG63, G43, YG61, Y19, Y15
  • Prismacolor Pencils: PC109, PC120,  PC289, PC929, White
  • Gina K Designs Amalgam Ink
  • Versafine Onyx Black Pigment Ink
  • Simon Says Stamp Vellum
  • Simon Says Stamp Thin 3D Foam Squares
  • Darice Foam Strips
Stencils are a great way to add interest to a background.  For this card I created a watercolor wash background and used the stencil that came with the Elegant Tulips Simple Coloring Stencil Set to add another layer of interest to the background.

I started with a piece of 4.5" x 5.75" watercolor paper.  Using a paintbrush I covered the panel with water.  Then I ink smooshed the Ocean Waves and Dusk Crisp Dye inks on a glass mat.  Using the damp paintbrush I painted over the panel.  For this step I was just adding color, not really being neat.  Then,  I used my heat tool to dry the panel.  Once it was dry I used the stencil and Sea Glass ink to add the design.

I have always been a big fan of watercolor background paper, but I've never actually created my own until now.  I love the way it turned out and it was so easy.

Next, I stamped the floral image on a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock.  I used the coordinating stencil to add Mauve Fresh Dye Ink to the flowers, Pistachio and Mossy Meadow Ink to the leaves, and Golden Honeycomb ink to the stamen.  I used the Sand Dunes, Rocky Shore and Mocha inks to color the vase.

Since I love to color, I added shading over the Fresh Dye Inks with Copic Markers and Prismacolor pencils.  The colors I used are listed above.  You absolutely don't have to do this step.  Using the stencils and inks alone will produce a beautiful result.

To put the card together, I trimmed the watercolor panel down to 5.375" x 4.125".  I cut a piece of 3.75" x 4.75" vellum and adhered it to the left side of the watercolor panel.  I also added some adhesive to the center where I knew I was going to put the flowers, and to the corners on the right side.  I like using ZIG 2 Way Glue when adhering vellum because it usually doesn't show after it's dry.

I cut a .25" x 5.375" strip of Brushed Silver Metallic Cardstock and adhered it on the left edge over the vellum.  I attached the flowers using the 3D Foam Square and the Darice Foam Strips to attach the sentiment.  When adhering a sentiment over an element that is already popped up try to use glue on the part that is going over the image and the foam strips on the other side.  This way your sentiment will lay flat.

To finish off this card I added 5 Crystal Clear Enamel Dots and adhered the panel to an A2 card base using Bearly Art Glue.

Thanks for stopping by!
